Medicinal cannabis may now be legal in Australia, but it is almost impossible to access in a timely manner and is extremely unafordable. Our mission is to change that.
Canada and almost all US states are embracing the end of cannabis prohibition with the safe regulation of a vibrant and legal cannabis industry. New Zealand will hold a referendum on full legalisation before 2020. Australia continues to lag behind with an extremely restrictive and inconsistent state and federal regime for medicinal use and cultivation within Australia. Exporting our medicinal cannabis has been legal as of February 2018 and Australia could well become the largest global supplier of such products but under our current laws, very few Australian citizens can access it through the proper channels. This only keeps the black market alive. Australia could be a global leader in cannabis cultivation and research but not whilst its own population is subject to a thoroughly unworkable access regime. By bringing our regulations in line with countries that share our values of equality, wealth for toil and compassion, Australia can take its rightful place in the global agricultural, industrial, scientific and medical revolution that is coming. The last 90 years of prohibition was an anomaly brought on by many reasons. None of them scientific and most of them based on questionable underlying motives. This plant has fed us, clothed us, sheltered us and comforted us for thousands of years. An Australian “Green Rush” will generate billions in revenue, grow our economy and help fund hospitals and schools. It will also create a market for specialist cannabis lawyers to operate in, but until that happens, we will continue to lobby for meaningful law reform in Australia and leave the commercial legal advice to our colleagues and friends in more enlightened jurisdictions.
Pro Bono Assistance
Lawful access to medicinal cannabis under Australia’s current piecemeal regime is an extremely complex and time-consuming process. The inconsistent approaches taken by each state combined with the cumbersome requirements of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and confusion in the medical profession have created a bureaucratic minefield. This process is leaving patients and their families scared, frustrated and exhausted. This is where we can help. We are putting together a network of volunteer lawyers to assist people who need access to medicinal cannabis now, not in two years’ time. Time is of the essence when battling an aggressive cancer or trying to halt the progression of severe and intractable childhood epilepsy. Please contact us at email@example.com to register your interest either as someone who may be eligible for this treatment or as a volunteer lawyer.
